What is an In-Home Lifestyle Session?

Well, in its simplest explanation, it's a session done in and around your home with your loved ones! It's a photo session that documents your family or you and your partner in your space. This session isn't the same as an outdoor session or holiday mini session photos as those you usually get dressed up together and all fancy, you drive to a special location and you spend the time snuggling up and smiling straight into the camera. Now, don't get me wrong. I still take a couple typical portraits but that's not the expectation to have for in-home lifestyle sessions. A lifestyle session is way more candid and natural-it focuses much more on interactions and activities at home. It's a more casual environment-well duh! cuz it's your home. However, you still can dress up however you want, and then we focus together on crafting genuine and natural moments together.

5 Reasons You Should Book an in-home Lifestyle Session

  1. You don't have to worry about weather! - Look, weather in the PNW is UNPREDICTABLE, especially in Eugene and Oregon in general. The best part of having a session in your home, is that regardless of the weather, you don't have to worry because you're covered. Quite literally LOL. No kiddos getting sick, no everyone getting drenched.

2. You get to include your fur babies - Not every family or couple want to put the stress on themselves or their pets in terms of taking them to a session. This is the best of both worlds because you get to cuddle with your little babies on the couch together, or play in the backyard with them.

3. You get to have more natural and authentic moments together. The sky is the limit in terms of what you can do in your in-home session. If it's a session with your newborn, you can photograph the family in the babies room. If it's you and your love, you can bring out things you like together-like a record collection, baking together decorating cookies, dancing in the living room or kitchen, or snuggling up on the couch. If it's you and your family, playing in the backyard, playing cards on the living room floor, snuggling on the couch, setting up a movie date. Honestly, the best part of in-home sessions are that they can be what YOU want them to be and you can't structure how you want them to be structured.

4. It's a comfier environment for everyone-look, it's your home! Of course it's comfier because it's what YOU wanted and it's curated the way you want.

5. You get to take a snapshot of your life. It's like pressing pause in the middle of a movie and getting to see what was on your shelves, what color couch you had and what pillows and blasts were around, what photos you hung on the wall, what toys or things were your favorite at the time and what books you had read that year.

How To Prepare For An In-Home Session

  1. Tidy up any area you're wanting to photograph in to the extent that you want-no pressure to make the space something that isn't authentic to you. Just curate the spaces you want to photograph in the way that you want. Make sure one bed is set up or the couch is available for snuggles!! Open up curtains or blinds so there's natural light everywhere. Ya girl LOVES natural light.
  2. Set aside any things you want photographed. Like baby blankets, little outfits, favorite children's books. And be ready for your babies and fur babies alike to wander and play around-that's the best part!
  3. In terms of what to wear- comfy clothes! Honestly, whatever you want. matching pjs, neutral shirts without logos. You could even have two different outfits, one more fancy and one more casual so you have options or a quick break in between photos.
  4. Figure out an activity to do with each other :) This is my FAVORITE part! Order a pizza, play a board game, or cuddle up and read a book together. Ooor if it's a holiday, carving pumpkins, decorating the front of the house, hanging lights, decorating a tree.
